Little River Band of Ottawa Indians

Case Study

The Opportunity

The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians' (LRBOI) plans to develop a gaming establishment in Muskegon County at the site of a former racetrack. As part of the Tribe's approval process the U.S. Department of Interior BIA has approved the Tribe's fee- to-trust application for land in Fruitport Township. The project is now in the hands of the State of Michigan.

MRG is providing support for the Tribe to engage with the community about the benefits of bringing gaming to the region through community outreach, social media and media relations.

How We Got There

MRG developed a coalition plan for the Tribe to help engage with members of the community, local leaders, public officials and the media. Our plan includes meeting with key community leaders and keeping them updated on the project. We also use a Facebook Page to engage and update community supporters, including highlighting how Little River Casino Resort benefits the Manistee community.

The Results

In our recent work with LRBOI, local community engagement at public hearings has been one of our main initiatives. MRG's coalition building efforts have proven successful at every key milestone as a large number of supporters attend and engage in the process to vocally support the Tribe's recent project in Muskegon County.

We have engaged MRG numerous times over the past 25 years at key points to help the Tribe build relationships, promote projects and provide public relations support. They do a great job in strategy and following up, so we make connections on important matters.
