Women's Aviation Career Symposium

Case Study

The Opportunity

When Helen Hagg, Mary Poirier, and Pam Tobin, founders of the Women's Aviation Career Symposium (WACS) started planning for 2022, they had a need for marketing. Helen recalled the marketing behind an event that MRG had coordinated and met with our team to try and replicate a similar effect for WACS.

Due to COVID, the 2021 event was cancelled, so the 2022 event had a special pressure to come back without the previous years' momentum, yet still make a big impact.

How We Got There

MRG developed a robust marketing plan, leveraging our skills in the public relations and marketing spheres. We handled the press releases and graphic design for the

symposium flyer and program booklet, which included the agenda, sponsors, program networks, and more.

The Results

The outcome of our efforts was overwhelmingly positive. The WACS event was featured in:

  • The Grand Rapids Magazine
  • Mlive Kalamazoo
  • State Aviation Journal
  • Grand Rapids Business Journal
  • WWMT, a Michigan-based TV station

Furthermore, the event was a success with over 180 people in attendance. WACS was able to award $32,000 in scholarships, quadrupling the amount given in the past, and tripling the goal for this year. Sixteen women each received $2,000 to pursue aviation and STEM education in the categories of flight training, maintenance training, professional development, and engineering.
